Vinyl sheet floors are highly popular due to being a resilient flooring material that comes in a large roll, typically 6 to 12 feet wide. J&N Surface Pros recommend using sheet vinyl flooring for:

  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Laundry Rooms
  • Basements

Vinyl sheet floors are great because they’re waterproof, easy to clean and maintain, and affordable compared to other flooring options.

Vinyl Sheet Installation Process

With vinyl sheet floors we start with the subfloor. We completely clean and level the space and remove any nail heads or bumps that might show through the vinyl. For wood subfloors, we typically lay a quarter-inch and fill in all the seams and screw holes with a patching compound. Then we begin sanding everything smoothly.

Then we begin with the template, we tape down kraft paper across the entire floor, cut it and fit it around every angle of your space. We then begin to lay it on top of the vinyl sheet, trace it and cut it. Once it’s cut we take it back to the space and begin to lay it out. We avoid air bubbles, and finish with a heavy floor roller to set it into the adhesive. After the final step, it’s important to keep any furniture or object off for 24 hours while it cures.

What Can you lay vinyl sheet flooring on?

Vinyl Sheet Flooring FAQs

The material itself is waterproof, water sits on top of it all day and nothing happens. The weak spots are the seams and the edges along walls. If water gets underneath through a bad seam or a gap at the toilet base, you’ve got a problem. That’s why proper installation and seam sealing matter so much. Done right, sheet vinyl is one of the best flooring options for bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.

A quality sheet vinyl floor with a professional installation will give you 10 to 20 years, sometimes more. The wear layer thickness is the biggest factor. A thicker wear layer handles foot traffic, pets, and kitchen chairs a lot better.

You can, but be smart about it. Heavy furniture can dent or permanently indent vinyl if it’s sitting on small legs or sharp edges.

Products we use are a completely realistic with wood grains, stone patterns, and tile looks. We’ve installed sheet vinyl in high-end kitchens where guests had no idea it wasn’t real hardwood. The key is choosing a quality product and having it installed by professionals so they last 10-20 years.

This is one of the easiest floors to maintain. Sweep or vacuum regularly to keep grit off the surface, that’s what causes scratches over time. Mop with warm water and a mild cleaner. Stay away from harsh chemicals, abrasive scrubbers, and steam mops because steam can loosen the adhesive underneath.

One of the best, actually. It’s scratch-resistant, waterproof on the surface, and easy to clean when accidents happen. It’s also softer and warmer underfoot than tile, which older dogs appreciate.
